Therapists for college students near San Diego State University
I’ve always had a deep interest in understanding people and their experiences. I was often the friend or family member that people would turn to for support, over time, I realized that I wanted to do more than just offer advice—I wanted to truly guide people on their personal journeys toward healing and growth. I was inspired by the idea of providing a safe space for people to explore their thoughts and feelings, and the idea that through therapy, people can find clarity, strength, and lasting change. I believe the most important thing is creating a space where you feel comfortable sharing openly. I listen closely to your words, but also pay attention to the emotions and body language that might not be as obvious. I want to really understand your perspective—what you’re going through, how you’re feeling, and what you need. My goal is for you to feel that you’re not just being listened to, but truly understood in a way that’s supportive and non-judgmental. Everyone’s experience is unique, so I try to adapt my approach to what works best for you, ensuring that you always feel seen and valued throughout our work together. Working together is a process, and it’s built on open communication, respect, and collaboration. I believe trust is something that grows over time, and I’m committed to creating a space where you feel comfortable and supported every step of the way. Trust is something I prioritize, and that comes from being consistent, empathetic, and non-judgmental. I’ll always meet you where you’re at, and we’ll work together to set a pace and approach that feels right for you.
Many of the students I work with are the people others assume are "doing fine" because they're successful, responsible, and high-achieving. On the inside, though, they may be struggling with anxiety, burnout, perfectionism, self-doubt, or feeling like they have to hide parts of themselves to fit in. I also work with students who are navigating life transitions, relationship challenges, family stress, or discovering they may be neurodivergent later in life. Together, we'll work to better understand what's been keeping you stuck, build on your strengths, and help you create a life that feels more authentic, balanced, and sustainable. My goal is to provide a space where you feel understood, supported, and never judged.
Asking for help and opening up can be a difficult process but allowing yourself to share troubling and stressful experiences can help you to regain control over your life. Learning to improve safe coping skills can help one to release stress and anxiety and better deal with life circumstances in a more positive way. Releasing hurt and pain is a healing process and promotes growth which can improve relationships and overall life satisfaction. The 1st step to healing is building a therapeutic relationship where one feels accepted & can feel safe being honest. I have specialized training in crisis counseling, CBT and solution focused therapy in a variety of settings over the past 16 years. I can assist you in improving your anxiety and depression by helping you increase safe coping skills. Please feel free to call or email me to determine if I am accepting new clients. I look forward to the opportunity to help you reach your full potential and to bring greater meaning to your life.

If you want to see the universe laugh, tell it your plans.” In my 30 years of practicing psychology, this is perhaps one of my most favorite client quotes. Life is a meandering, unpredictable adventure with fulfilling, joyous times and also some unexpected and difficult challenges included. It’s not always easy to create the life and relationships that will bring fulfillment and happiness. Sometimes it’s difficult to even imagine your goals, understand what’s going wrong and think of solutions to overwhelming problems. Whether you are struggling with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, low self-worth or just a general sense of dissatisfaction and unhappiness, therapy can help you gain insight into your feelings, clarify your life’s direction and help you create a life worth living by maximizing your true potential. I strive to create a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment where we can collaboratively explore, understand and clarify your feelings as well as find more adaptive ways to cope and problem solve the issues in your life. I believe that you can’t really understand someone’s present world without understanding their past experiences and how that is negatively or positively impacting their life now. In therapy I can help you break out of old patterns that are not serving you well anymore, improve coping alternatives and psychological flexibility while concurrently providing you concrete strategies for managing overwhelming feelings in the moment and the support and empathy you need to move forward. Life is hard for everyone at some point, but in considering therapy now, you have demonstrated the courage to strive for more and take the first step towards healing and growth. Together we will create the life you’ve always wanted by exploring what is holding you back, getting in your way and answering the questions you were previously too afraid to consider. I have been practicing psychology/therapy for the past 30 years since receiving my PhD in 1993 from The University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Many of the people I work with describe feeling stuck, burned out, or unsure about what comes next. On the surface, they may seem to have it all together, yet inside they are struggling with anxiety, depression, or the pressure to keep going when they are running on empty. You might find yourself juggling work, relationships, and personal growth while quietly wondering why it all feels so heavy. Therapy with me is a space to slow down, make sense of what is happening beneath the surface, and reconnect with yourself in a way that feels honest and sustainable. I will meet you with curiosity and care, not judgment. Together we will explore patterns, emotions, and experiences that have shaped you while building practical tools to manage stress and create balance. You do not have to have everything figured out to start. My goal is to help you feel more grounded, confident, and aligned with what truly matters, at a pace that feels safe and supportive for where you are right now.
After working in the developmental disability and mental health field for many years I decided to pursue an education to become a therapist. I wanted to support people with improving their quality of life regarding relationship problems, life transition difficulties, self-esteem struggles, and emotional healing from past and current trauma. I have been working in the developmental disability and mental health field for over 20 years and I’ve always felt a strong passion to do this work. My educational background includes a BA in Education from the University of Akron and a M.Ed. in Community Counseling from Kent State University. I hold a national certifications as a Certified Brain Injury Specialist and a National Certified Counselor. As a therapist, I take a holistic and collaborative therapeutic approach. I consider the physical, mental, and spiritual factors that influence someone’s well-being. My Approach is to create a sense of self-awareness and to understand the connections between mind, body, and relationships. In collaboration I enjoy exploring how these areas impact a person’s mental health. As a therapist I have a compassionate and empathetic style that creates a safe space where you can share intimate details of your life. I bring valuable experience in supporting individuals navigating issues such as anxiety, disabilities, feelings of stagnation, and challenges in attaining a state of inner peace. With my collaborative approach, we will work on navigating uncertainty, embracing yourself, and building stronger relationships and supports. The strategies and skills that I teach can be practiced on their own outside of the therapy sessions.
I help teens and young adults seeking help with depression, anxiety, stress management, self-criticism/perfectionism, and improving communication and relationships. I apply multiple techniques including CBT and mindfulness practices.
I specialize in Substance Use and Trauma. I work with individuals, families, and provide support for partners and spouses of those struggling with Substance Use. Often underlying trauma, mental and physical disorders, stress and shame, fuel substance use, so without addressing those underlying forces its very difficult to manage your life and break free from addiction. I will come along side of you and provide a safe place to process, an individualized recovery plan, tools and insight through education, and together through discovery we will set goals around breaking free from those underlying issues that drive substance abuse as well as breaking addiction itself. We all need a space where we can safely explore life’s many stressors, what feels heavy, experiences with anxiety, overwhelm, trauma, loss, relationship challenges, depression, neurodiversity. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I recognize everyone deserves a safe, supportive space where they can show up as their genuine self to process and sort through internal conflicts, battles, life’s challenges. I see therapy as a trusting partnership rooted in curiosity and safety, where we focus on strengthening your mental health and building on the strengths you already have. Therapy is a safe place to gently process what feels heavy, make sense of your lived experiences, and strengthen your overall mental health and well-being. My approach is compassionate, collaborative, and guided by your goals, your pace and felt safety in sessions, and your lived experiences. I provide affirming, culturally responsive care for LGBTQI+ and BIPOC communities, as well as individuals across all life stages and backgrounds. I find daily morning and evening routines are incredibly helpful to maintaining my personal wellbeing and daily lived experiences. When I find myself struggling with life’s challenges, I turn to outlets such as nature, walks, music, writing to process, simple self care acts, spending time with those I love and care for, and snuggles with my pet.
Hi! I have spent my entire career working with college students - starting initially on a college campus, then to a group practice near UC Davis, and now in my own private practice. I am currently only offering telehealth services and I am licensed in California, Florida, and Ontario Canada. I love supporting young adults and adults during such a pivotal time of life; as they navigate the transition to college, the unique challenges that come with being a college student/young adult, and the healing that can happen when you find a good fit. Whether you have a history of mental health impacting you or it's your first time ever experiencing anxiety, depression, loss, self esteem, relationship challenges (among other things) I strive to provide you with a safe space to feel heard, supported, and understood.
I am passionate about helping 20 and 30 year olds navigate life’s unexpected curve balls. Being a human can be challenging and complex, but I believe that support, coping skills, and self awareness can make things easier. College and adulting means facing a lot of "firsts" and new transitions. My goal is to help you move through life with more ease and confidence. I am human-centered therapist and believe you are the expert on you. In my office, therapy is a team effort and a journey we go through side by side. We work together by drawing on your unique lived experiences and building on your strengths. I use various elements of DBT, cognitive behavioral therapy, and strengths-based therapy to help my clients meet their individual goals. Let’s work together to embrace your strengths and tackle life's challenges.
I work best with college students who are trying to find their place in the world while managing anxiety, depression, or questions about identity. Many of my clients are part of the LGBTQ+ community and are learning how to navigate relationships, family expectations, and self-acceptance. In our work together, we focus on understanding what’s beneath your stress and self-criticism, building confidence, and helping you feel more grounded and authentic in your life. My goal is to create a space where you can explore who you are without judgment.

I work with individuals and couples seeking healing, growth, and stronger relationships. Many clients come to me struggling with anxiety, trauma, communication challenges, relationship conflict, life transitions, or spiritual concerns. Couples often seek support to rebuild trust, improve communication, and deepen connection. Individuals may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or burdened by past experiences. I provide a safe, supportive environment where clients can gain insight, develop healthy coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change. My practice specializes in couples counseling, trauma recovery, anxiety treatment, and faith-based counseling. I use evidence-based approaches to help clients strengthen relationships, process difficult experiences, manage anxiety, and build resilience. For those who desire it, I thoughtfully integrate Christian faith into the counseling process. Taking the first step toward counseling can feel difficult, but you do not have to face life's challenges alone. Whether you are struggling in your relationship, carrying the weight of past hurts, or feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, support is available. I am committed to providing a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where healing and growth can begin.
I love supporting college students at every stage — first-year to returning adult learners — who are navigating a season full of change, uncertainty, and big questions. Maybe you're struggling to make friends or be yourself. Maybe friends aren't the issue, but your romantic life feels chaotic and it's something you'd like to develop. Perhaps relationships aren't it at all — school feels overwhelming and stressful, and you're not sure what you want to do. I work with students experiencing anxiety, depression, loneliness, relationship challenges, academic stress, and the emotional overwhelm that often comes with this stage of life. I want to help you understand yourself more clearly and experience yourself with confidence. Sometimes concrete skills can help with that, but mostly, I want to offer a space that feels safe to talk about whatever's showing up in your life right now. Together, we can figure out what you need.
