Are you stuck? Your journey towards empowerment and freedom starts now. You will build the skills to overcome your personal struggles and with those you love. Everyone has capacity for positive growth. You will be provided with a genuine, empathic, and safe space to allow you to tap into your innate power for growth and development. Our early childhood experiences and attachment styles shape our personality and behavior. Working on your past relationships will help you gain insight into your current situation, then use that insight to reduce daily stress and find your way. My experience includes working with a diverse group of children, adults, and adolescents in the areas of relationships, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, anger management, coping skills, and emotional regulation. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is a very effective way to heal from traumatic memories or events.

I help young women facing difficult life situations find healing, peace, and contentment in their lives. I am a psychiatrist and psychotherapist with over 15 years of experience. During our initial sessions, we will delve deeply into the issues at hand, and collaborate to create a plan for addressing them in a way that helps you get your life back. Most of my patients see a gradual lifting of symptoms within the first month and sustained improvement thereafter. If you have been suffering on your own, I want you to know that there is hope for relief, and that you aren’t alone. I specialize in psychotherapy, with and without integrated use of medication treatment. In addition to a medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine and a residency in psychiatry, I pursued specialized psychotherapy training. I am trained in and use cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), EMDR, and mindfulness based therapy. It can be a daunting task to find a therapist and enter into the unknown. I'm glad you've taken the first steps towards meaningful change. My website can address any questions you might have, and I offer convenient secure video appointments, online scheduling, and a free screening consultation: www.peacetreementalhealth.com

Feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure where to begin? You’re not alone and you don’t have to navigate it alone. Welcome to The Center of Resiliency. My name is Laura, and I’m honored you’re here. I believe therapy should feel like a space where you can finally exhale. You are taking the first step and reaching out for therapy can feel hard, my hope is to offer you safety, understanding, and support as you begin your journey toward healing and growth. I work with individuals ages 16 and up who may be feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure how to move forward. Many people I support are navigating anxiety, low mood, self-doubt, life transitions, or relationship challenges. I also work with couples who want to improve communication, rebuild trust, or feel more connected in their relationship. In addition, I have a special passion for supporting parents of children with special needs and understand how emotionally and physically demanding that role can be. You don’t have to carry everything on your own. In our work together, you can expect a warm, honest, and collaborative approach. Therapy with me is not about being “fixed,” but about helping you better understand yourself, build healthier patterns, and develop tools that fit your real life. We will move at your pace and focus on what matters most to you. My goal is for therapy to feel like a partnership where you feel empowered, not judged. I am currently completing my Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology at National University, with training in both individual and relationship-focused therapy. Outside of my work, I enjoy spending time with loved ones, listening to music, and getting lost in a good book. My own life experiences have shaped my belief that healing happens through genuine connection, compassion, and feeling truly seen. If you’re considering therapy, I would be honored to walk alongside you.

Individual Work: Individual work is core to my practice. I work with adults and adolescents. Together we can explore whatever you feel to be disturbing your experience of life, particularly depression, anxiety, grief, loneliness, spiritual and creative blocks, illness, childhood abuse, trauma or issues related to sexuality, gender expression, and intimacy. Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy: I have extensive training in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy, and am a Journey Clinical KAP provider. In addition to traditional psychotherapy, I offer a therapeutic modality called KAP: the use of ketamine as a compliment to psychotherapy. I deliver KAP in my practice in partnership with an organization called Journey Clinical, which has a specialized medical team that determines eligibility for KAP, prescribes ketamine lozenges where appropriate, and supports me in monitoring outcomes. If you are interested in exploring KAP, please contact me to discuss eligibility and next steps. Many of the people I work with are Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC) who are struggling to navigate multiple areas of their life like work, school, family, relationships, or the intersectionalities of their identities. Many talk about often feeling overwhelmed, stressed, or stuck. This then kicks off to what feels like a never ending cycle of confusion, frustration, depression, and anxiety. Therapy is an opportunity to find clarity and work through these obstacles to help people get their life back on track. My clients and I work together to develop more mindful behaviors to help lead a more meaningful and healthy life. People develop certain attitudes and perspectives based on their early life experiences to survive when they were younger. But these attitudes and perspectives are not helping now which is part of the reason why people might feel stuck. By looking at these attitudes and perspectives closely, people can learn to change how they talk to themselves, how they react to their emotions. and take more thoughtful actions to move forward towards a more authentic and fulfilling life. My practice integrates several evidence-based treatments such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy for Psychosis (CBTp), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) that encompasses principles of person-centered, recovery-oriented, trauma-informed, multiculturalism, and strength-based values. With my compassionate, collaborative, non-judgmental, and down-to-earth style, therapy can address the things that are getting in the way of people’s life so that they can move forward. COMMON EXPERIENCES THAT I WORK WITH PEOPLE ON: - It feels like your mind is playing tricks on you - It feels like your eyes or ears are playing tricks on you - It feels like something odd is going on or hard to explain - Confused at times whether something is real or imaginary - You feel suspicious or mistrustful of others - It feels like you have little control over your thoughts - It feels like others can hear your thoughts or read your mind - Having thoughts or beliefs that you or others find strange - Race-related identity, culture, and intersectionality - Cultural and systemic trauma and oppression

I have provided therapy to many undergraduate and graduate students at UC San Diego for over 17 years. I have helped people struggling with a wide range of issues, such as depression, anxiety, academic and relationship concerns, trauma, and concerns related to identity (e.g., racial / sexual / gender). In addition, I have worked particularly closely with international students / foreigners, and LGBTQ+ folks. My approach to therapy is warm and supportive, as well as practical. I care about social justice issues and find that these are often relevant to the distress that people experience. In therapy, we will explore the roots of your distress and work on tools and coping strategies to help you overcome the challenges you face. I do this work in individual therapy and in couples therapy. I look forward to meeting with you. I know you want to feel better soon, and I am ready to help you with that!
