In my practice I work with older adolescents and adults, focusing on personal awareness, empowerment, building skills for navigating life stressors, and enriching personal relationships. I have over 15 years of experience working in the areas of addictions, anxiety, depression, life transitions, and relationship development. Together we will explore patterns and choices that contribute to your accomplishments and struggles. We will work towards self-awareness while remaining solution-focused, and will use the strengths you already possess to build more skills for managing the challenges that life brings.

As we grow and develop life throws at us a series of experiences and challenges. We learn to navigate our environment and relationships through these experiences. As a therapist I have the utmost respect for the ways in which people have approached their lives. It is not my goal to tell someone how to live. My role is to provide a relationship and a dedicated time to think openly about your experience. Sometimes we lose sight of the meaning and spend time trying to convince ourselves of something that may no longer fit. Through empathy and playfulness, I hope to create a space in which people feel safe to explore new ways of being and thinking. I am interested in both what you say and how you say it: the lyrics and the music. We will work together to find new ways of making meaning out of what life offers. In our first meeting I will be very curious to learn about your life and the challenges you are experiencing. We will discuss how you approach your life and identify ways in which you may struggle and succeed in facing difficulties. I will share feedback with you towards the end of the session and spend time planning future steps. I have worked in college and university mental health centers for over 10 years and look forward to continuing my work with students in my private practice.

Hi! I am a licensed outpatient mental health counselor with a community mental health background, and work primarily from young/emerging adulthood to middle adulthood. I have experience working with complex trauma, as well as challenges associated with emerging adulthood, gaining independence, and setting personal goals for growth. Additionally, I enjoy providing support to other mental health clinicians seeking services themselves. I offer one-on-one outpatient therapy using a variety of modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR), attachment-based therapy, and more. I view my work through trauma-informed and culturally-informed lenses. Building rapport and a trusting therapeutic relationship is of utmost importance in order for treatment to be most effective. I would love the opportunity to get to know you and be a part of your journey towards growing and healing.

Effective therapy creates meaningful, lasting, joyful change. As your therapist I can help you resolve the inner and outer conflicts that create pain and exhaustion. Life brings unchosen experiences. Sometimes we feel hurt, scared, or deeply alone. Sometimes what happens seems too big to manage. For 25+ years I have had the privilege of helping people learn to live as their "best self," able to manage their moods, thoughts and situations with compassion and skill, to make changes to reach their goals, and to find happiness. I lived and worked in Africa for 6 years, and have helped people from many cultures find their joy. My specialty is helping people understand their unique "recipe" of biology, upbringing, relationships, and current situations, and how they might work with their "ingredients" to create immediate and long-lasting positive change. My approach is practical. I integrate psychodynamic and cognitive behavioral therapies, internal and strategic family systems, EMDR and other trauma-informed approaches, and mindfulness-based stress management. Depression, anxiety, loneliness, frustration, pulls towards behaviors that lead to pain...whatever is interfering with your well-being is worth changing. Together we can produce change. Please EMAIL

These are extremely challenging times; especially for college students. If you are struggling with emotions and thoughts related to all the changes you are experiencing, it might help to find someone to talk to. My approach to therapy is very casual, natural, non judgmental, collaborative and interactive.

I have been working with the young adult population for 10+ years. I enjoy supporting college-aged students as they work to identify and build their strengths and overcome challenges. Being in your 20s somethings is fun, exciting, and can be for many, incredibly hard. I work to understand what it is you are experiencing to personalize strategies, validate your feelings, and help you meet your goals.

I help clients to learn, grow, and resolve their problems -- whether big or small, simple or complicated. Those problems may include: self-defeating habits, hurtful relationship patterns, overwhelming anxiety, or debilitating depression. Milton Erickson is the psychiatrist, who revolutionized approaches to both psychotherapy and hypnosis. I practice in his tradition. That means: I don't just listen. I also reframe problems you might think unsolvable, change perspectives that stymie you, awaken dormant strengths, and teach lessons and skills you're missing. I am presently providing teletherapy services only to new clients. Although I do provide insight-oriented therapy to clients, who want better to understand themselves, most of my work is short term with clients, who merely want to solve their problems as quickly as possible.

Inevitably, life presents difficulties, and can be challenging for many different reasons. Sometimes the things that bring people to therapy are very specific: perhaps a major life transition has become overwhelming, or certain patterns within a relationship are starting to take a toll. Pressures in some particular setting, whether it is at school, at work, or at home, may be feeling too difficult to navigate alone. Other times, people come to therapy a little less certain, feeling confused and unsure about where their life is headed, wanting something more. It’s not always easy to answer the question, “What brings you here?” People tend to doubt their inner strengths, and don’t quite realize how many resources they in fact possess. I have found that, though conversation with a trusted person, people can more easily identify and then build on those strengths. In my work with children, we often talk about expanding their “toolbox,” so that they have the skills to better manage overwhelming emotions and navigate complicated social situations. With teenagers and young adults, we often find ourselves talking about questions of identity development - the process of learning about who we are, how we got there, and what we want for ourselves moving forward. I see growth and development as a lifetime process, and, in my work with adults, we address all these issues in increasingly varied and complex ways, while also working together to navigate complex challenges presented by a world that can be arbitrary and unfair. My past experiences, doing individual and family therapy with people of all ages, of diverse backgrounds, and difficult, sometimes traumatic histories and life circumstances, have engendered within me a core belief that with the right support and collaboration, it is possible to make meaningful and long-lasting changes.

I see College and Graduate students at all year levels. I work with individuals and couples ( married and unmarried, who are dissatisfied with or want to improve their partnerships). Even the best parts of your academic career -- having more control over your own life, living with new people, getting to know a new city, forming new relationships, coming out to yourself or others, learning and pursuing what interests and inspires you -- can create stress. Relating to your family may be complicated, particularly if there have been difficulties at home. Loss, divorce, illness, abuse or substance abuse may factor into your story. You may be the first person in your family to go to college or beyond. You may have a chronic medical condition, visible or invisible to others. Figuring out who you want to be and what you have to work with may be unnecessarily burdensome to do all by yourself. When you hit a bump in the road, psychotherapy can help you problem solve, understand yourself better and come up with new strategies to move forward. Getting to know yourself better can be an important part of your education. Getting a handle on anxiety and/or depression can be crucial to making life work for you. Individual or couple psychotherapy can sychotherapy, free up energy to pursue life goals and improve relationships. I have worked with college and graduate students, as individuals and in couples, for over 25 years both in a University Counseling Center and in my private practice. I also have trained other professionals to work with students Please see my website or Psychology today profile for more information about my practice with couples and individual adults. https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/therapists/roberta-caplan-waltham-ma/113684 I offer a free telephone screening to see if working with me might meet your current needs. I accept BC/BS PPO plans (not HMO) and can provide documentation you would need for out-of-network benefits for other plans.

My approach is collaborative and open-minded. I offer both long-term and short-term psychotherapy. True healing occurs when individuals can reflect on the ways they engage with others, with the world, and with themselves. Relationships are often a focus because it is here that struggles often present themselves.
