Therapists for college students near Durham, NC
I am a counselor at Blue Ridge EXA, an integrative care practice where we specialize in grief, life transitions, and the effects of medical trauma. In our sessions, you can expect a person-centered and integrative approach, one that honors your inner knowing while gently exploring the patterns and stories that shape your experience. I work with those who are experiencing the effects of trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, and navigating times of uncertainty and change. I am an expressive arts therapist, and offer a compassionate, safe place to explore your experience.
Join me in learning the tools and skills to intentionally create the life that you desire. I work with clients who are looking to strengthen trust in themselves. My overarching goal for every client who comes to see me is for them to have a more loving, compassionate relationship to themselves, others, and their past. I use a holistic collaborative approach to counseling that recognizes our unique multidimensional nature, and honors the connection between mind, emotions, energy, and body. Birdie, my office puppy, is a gentle presence who offers passive emotional support to clients who enjoy animal companionship. I work with adults, college students, teens, adolescents, couples, and families, to: 1. Identify harmful thought and behavior patterns, 2. Understand what's at the root of these patterns, 3. Cultivate tools and behaviors that encourage, rather than inhibit, growth. I offer compassionate, honest feedback, providing an outside lens that will allow you to see yourself more clearly. I believe everyone has the tools within them to heal and grow. You can reconnect with your authentic and confident self. Let's rekindle the spark within you and heal the past that is holding you back from the life you desire. I would be honored to assist you in opening up paths to trusting yourself and healing your past in your journey to wholeness.
My clients are exhausted and overwhelmed like you. They are tired of doing their best to keep all these balls (school, work, parenting, relationships, self-care, health and wellbeing, sleep + more) up in the air (even though admittedly they are pretty darn good at it). But when they inevitably drop a few because something else pops up or they get tired, life feels messy and they are quick to place judgements on themselves. My clients are expert problem solvers and doers, who in the face of stress, just keep going. Some are the type of person who the people in their life lean on for support. Some have tried a number of ways to fix or problem solve their way our of their emotions or exhaustion. They find their coping to work for a little bit but aren't moving them towards the life they imagined for themselves. Some realize they aren't sure they can keep up with all of what needs to be done to feel "okay". When some of my clients do take time for themselves or the rest they need, their mind struggles with feeling guilty, worrying about what they "should" be doing for work/school/person (fill in the blank with any responsibility). Like my clients, you deserve to find ease and connection in your body without a to-do list flowing through your head or scanning your body for what’s wrong now. Not being defined or consumed by your productivity is not out of your reach. I'd love to help you get there. Contact me today for a free consultation.
Forming yourself into the adult you are going to be for the rest of your life can be stressful. Managing academics, extracurricular activities, relationships, and social life while planning for your future after college can be super overwhelming at times. I work collaboratively with you to help you learn to cope better with life's stressors, reduce symptoms of mental health, enjoy healthier relationships, and set and achieve your goals. Knowing your values, what's important to you, and following your passions, separate from what others want from you is important and presents challenges. We will help you figure out how best to live the life you most desire.

Welcome to Saltmarsh Counseling! As a native of the area and lover of the everything coastal, I relate therapy to the salt marsh. Many are not aware of the essential role the salt marsh plays and the wealth of benefits it provides. A few important attributes include maintaining healthy water quality and reducing pollution by acting as a filter, protecting us from flooding and erosion by creating a buffer to protect from storm surge, and providing a nursery and safe haven for commercial and recreational fisheries. Like the salt marsh, therapy acts as a filter for individuals working through the challenging aspects of mental illness, relationships, and life transitions. The therapeutic setting provides a safe space to be vulnerable, to learn healthy coping skills, to gain self-awareness, and to evolve as a person.
With over 25 years of experience, I find collage students amongst my favorite population to work with. College life offers so many opportunities and yet so many challenges be it stress and anxiety, social/relationship challenges and even time management. My approach is gently but if you some firm guidance and life coaching I can be that person too! Sometimes taking the first steps can feel intimidating but I encourage you to be brave and know you will be met with a therapist who truly cares and will not ever judge you, blame you or shame you. This is about you getting the most out of your life!
I have 15 years of experience as an LCSW-C supporting, educating and holding emotional space for young adults and their families. I partner with students and schools to support clients with ADHD and educational issues. I believe in meeting the client where they are and looking for therapeutic strategies that fit their lifestyle and background. Mental health is very personal, based on client experiences. I see therapy as a tool to help client identify strengths and teach effective coping strategies and skills they can apply to their lives now and for future struggles. I consider myself fortunate to be able to work in a profession that I truly love and I consider a privilege to be invited into my clients' inner lives, and to travel this journey with them through healing, change, and self-empowerment. I see therapy as a process of identifying strengths and struggles and teaching clients to harness their own power.
