Therapists for college students near New York, NY
“I want to feel happier and less depressed.” “We would like to improve our relationship.” “I would like to feel calmer and more in control, in spite of the stress, loss and trauma I have experienced.” “We want to help our children cope with our divorce.” “We need to figure out how we are going to live as a divorced family.” These are some of the most frequent goals of my clients as we work together. Many of the stresses and conflicts my clients face can be due to life’s experiences and losses or can come from within. Stress and conflict can lead to disintegration of relationships with our partners and our children, and even in how we view ourselves. Strengthening coping skills, emotional connection and intimacy can help repair fractures, increase compassionate understanding, and build closeness. Focusing on positive growth, shifting well-engrained patterns, and building greater self-acceptance can create lasting change and happiness. As a clinical psychologist with over 40 years of experience, I help adults, couples and families, by integrating many different therapeutic approaches to best fit my clients’ needs.

I am a psychotherapist with several years of experience helping young people from diverse backgrounds develop the tools they need to move toward their personal and wellness goals. Whether you are navigating a major life transition, struggling with confidence, working through challenging family dynamics, experiencing relationship difficulties, or processing past experiences, my goal is to help you make sense of these challenges and reconnect with the inner strengths you already carry. Together we can build clarity, strengthen self-trust, and develop practical tools to help you move forward with confidence. My approach to therapy is collaborative, curious, holistic, and empowering. I draw from evidence-based practices including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and Solution-Focused Therapy, tailoring each session to your individual needs and goals. In our work together, we will explore your concerns within the broader context of your life experiences, relationships, and environment. From there, we will develop a thoughtful and realistic path toward the changes you want to make. If this resonates with you, I’d be happy to connect and begin this process together!
My approach is both relational and practical. I focus on helping you understand the patterns that keep you stuck—especially overthinking, self-doubt, and relationship anxiety—while also giving you tools to respond differently in real time. I draw from a blend of approaches, including insight-oriented work and more structured strategies, depending on what’s most helpful for you. I’m active and engaged in sessions, not just listening but helping you make connections and move forward. The goal is not just insight, but actual change in how you think, feel, and show up.
You may feel stuck, uncertain about yourself, overwhelmed by life transitions, or carrying the weight of the past. These moments hold emotional truths that deserve to be seen, heard, and understood. When we meet them with care and curiosity, they can become powerful entry points to deeper self-discovery and lasting self-compassion. The process of turning inward, increasing self-awareness and self-kindness, can be complex, but it often opens the door to meaningful growth. My role is to offer a safe, judgment-free space where this kind of exploration can unfold. I feel honored to walk alongside individuals as they reconnect with the parts of themselves that may feel lost, silenced, or in conflict. My approach is person-centered and psychodynamic, grounded in empathy and with a deep respect for your unique story. Together, we’ll explore your inner world at a pace that feels right for you. Individuals often share that they feel at ease in our sessions, able to speak freely, even when the emotions are difficult to name. Therapy with me is a collaborative process, grounded in trust, where you can feel empowered to take steps that align with your values. If you're ready to begin, or even just curious, I welcome you to reach out!

Hi! I’m Sarah. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the pressure to "have it all figured out" while navigating the ups and downs of college life, you’re in the right place. Whether you’re a New Yorker studying away from home or a Virginian trying to find your footing, I’m here to help you manage the transition. I’ve spent the last three years helping people navigate life’s biggest shifts. I know that being a student isn't just about grades—it’s about managing relationships, setting boundaries with family, and figuring out who you are when the old labels don't seem to fit anymore. My Approach: I don’t believe in "one size fits all" therapy. My style is warm, direct, and collaborative. I bring a grounded, practical perspective to our sessions (with a touch of wit) to help you move from feeling stuck to feeling capable. I specialize in: Relationship Navigation: Modern dating, roommate friction, and family dynamics. Anxiety & Perfectionism: Silencing the "not enough" voice. Life Transitions: Moving, career pivot anxiety, and identity shifts. I offer a space where you can be completely yourself—no "clinical mask" required. Let’s work together to build a toolkit that actually works for your life, not just your syllabus.

We are moved to seek mental health treatment when traditional methods of self-care are not enough, when life becomes too much to handle on our own. Regardless of your specific issues, we will be exploring the ways in which creativity (especially music) can help you meet the challenges you face. Through our artistic collaboration and talk therapy, we will be able to discover patterns of thought and ways of relating that may be transformed through greater self-knowledge. Being musically talented is not a prerequisite for music therapy, just experience with the immense depth of feeling that music provides. As a humanistically oriented therapist, empathy forms the foundation of my practice. All material is welcome in sessions, and will be met with unconditional care. Part of our work together will be expanding our understanding of the material you present, and how best to use music to achieve your goals.
I invite you to schedule a free 15-minute phone call to answer your questions and concerns, discuss your insurance, and make a recommendation based on your needs. Whether you feel stuck, stressed, or unhappy for too long, I will assist you to identify your goals and figure out the way to change. As a licensed bilingual (English/Chinese Mandarin) psychologist with more than 10 years of experience, I have the highest level of doctoral training to help people from diverse background to overcome the challenges and live the best life possible. I specialize in helping individuals, couples, and family with relationship concerns, stress, depression, anxiety, self esteem, anger, life transitions, emotional disturbance, trauma, and work related issues. I implement evidence-based approaches such as CBT, DBT, mindfulness, and psychodynamic strategies in an effort to best meet your unique needs. I look forward to working with you in a safe and supportive environment where you can feel free to share your thoughts, emotions, and patterns of behaviors. Hello and welcome! I am a psychotherapist licensed in New York and Massachusetts with over ten years of experience in NYC. I graduated with my Masters in Social Work from New York University and Bachelors in Psychology from The New School. As a therapist specializing in psychodynamic therapy, I provide a warm and nonjudgmental space where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and past experiences openly to gain a deeper understanding of your inner world. I have experience supporting clients through a wide range of issues, including depression, grief, self-esteem, trauma, anxiety, OCD, relationship dynamics, and life transitions. I take an integrative and personalized approach. I believe a positive and supportive relationship with a therapist can help us gain insight, develop self-compassion, and navigate the challenges of life. I provide in-depth talk therapy and integrate techniques from cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness practices. I am currently pursuing post-graduate clinical training in Psychoanalysis. During our initial consultation, I will guide you through the process and discuss your hopes for therapy. My goal is to support you in creating an enriching and fulfilling life based on your values. I am a trauma-informed, social justice oriented, and LGBTQIA+ affirming provider.
I’ve always been a curious person. Some might call it nosy, but for me it’s about wanting to understand what makes each person unique. That curiosity began with my own story, figuring out who I am and where I come from. Growing up in an immigrant household as a biracial person brought its own challenges, and those experiences shaped my connection to this work. Mental health has always felt deeply personal to me. Having been impacted by it both directly and indirectly, I’ve learned to turn adversity into strength and purpose, and to connect with others through empathy and understanding. Think of therapy as a choose-your-own-adventure. My goal is to meet you exactly where you are at. Some sessions might be spent processing the pain of a difficult breakup, while others may focus on something lighter, like venting about a character you can’t stand in a show you’re watching. I value the open-endedness of person-centered therapy and enjoy finding creative and meaningful ways to support clients.
