Therapists for college students near Philadelphia, PA
My specialty is working with people with anxiety, depression, and a history of interpersonal trauma. I bring over 20 years of clinical experience, including three university counseling centers, hospitals, and community clinics, including one specialized in caring for the LGBTQ+ community, before establishing my practice in 2011. I value working with those exploring the impact of gender and race on their identity and life experiences, and those living between cultures and languages. My goal is to help you understand yourself at a deep level, own your body, and live more fully and meaningfully. Please feel free to check out my website and contact me for more details.

She has assisted young adults with navigating the transition to college, learning coping skills and life skills, and managing evolving relationships and life stressors while adjusting to setting safe and healthy boundaries in their lives. Brynne also has a history of working with students who have moved from other countries to pursue their education in the United States of America. Opening up is no small thing, but it's also the fundamental thing that gives folks relief. To this end, I try to make therapy a natural process and most of my clients say that I feel like "talking to a real person." I developed my style by working with university students on a number of campuses who taught me to drop the artificial formalities, ask deeper questions, be upfront with my care, and say what I mean. In general, I start from the standpoint that anyone seeking therapy has come by their pain honestly and that much of what folx find distressing in themselves is a reasonable response to what has happened to them. Thus, I am unlikely to give rote advice and more likely to partner with you in unpacking your past, exploring your feelings, reaching creative solutions, and lifting what's blocking you from moving toward your version of the good life. In terms of specialties, I help students work through the kinds of relationship troubles (family, romantic, friendships etc) that leave people feeling lonely, anxious, inadequate, seeking approval, depressed, misunderstood, self-critical, or slow to let others in. Queer folx, Student Veterans, adult children of alcoholics, overachievers, burnt out students, undergrad, law, medical, and grad students, young professionals, and folks in creative fields have found me helpful. Importantly, for therapy to be a liberating space, people need the freedom to talk about how their lives are shaped by their sociocultural identities as well as corresponding experiences of prejudice, marginalization, and erasure. Conversations about politics, class, race, religion, gender, sexuality and all the "isms" are fair game and also integral to figuring out how to live with more ease in these difficult times.
Welcome! At OCD & Anxiety Specialist, LLC, we help college students who feel overwhelmed by anxiety, OCD, perfectionism, intrusive thoughts, and constant overthinking. Our therapists use active, evidence-based approaches to help students understand these patterns, build practical skills, and spend less time caught in anxiety, avoidance, reassurance-seeking, and compulsive behaviors. Whether you're struggling with academic stress, relationship anxiety, OCD, panic, or simply feeling mentally exhausted from trying to keep up, therapy can help you move forward with greater confidence and flexibility. Our practice offers virtual therapy throughout Pennsylvania, with in-person services also available in Irwin. Relationships are both the most difficult and the most rewarding things about being human, and they are HARD! I believe very strongly in the power of relationships to heal as well as hurt. I help people look at the relationships in their lives and figure out how to move forward in a new way. I work with all types of relationships. My particular areas of interest include defiant teenagers, self-harm, couples therapy, mindfulness, and trauma work. When the most important relationships in our lives are strong, I believe that we can handle whatever problems life throws at us.
Our Mission At Seyler – Berkebile Marriage & Family Therapy we believe that through the context of a caring and supportive relationship, we can assist individuals, families and couples in the difficulties they are experiencing. This process can bring about change by empowering you to make responsible connections with yourself, others and the environment in order to safely and effectively fulfill your needs. We utilize the Solution Focused Brief Therapy Approach where we will encourage you to talk about your thoughts, feelings and behaviors in a safe environment which you may explore in the present moment. Goals will be established that are co-created by you and your therapist, and therapy will focus on helping you find solutions to reach those goals. Our success in the past has stemmed from our strong commitment and sense of professionalism. We keep high standards for our work. We devote ourselves to continuing our education to better assist our clients.
On our journey it can be helpful to have someone to help us see the narratives that often define our lives. Some of those narratives keep us from experiencing what we want for ourselves now and in the future. Since graduating with a Masters in Counseling Psychology from The Seattle School of Theology and Psychology in 2010, I have been working as a therapist with people in various stages of life. A relationship between a therapist and client can provide someone with a deep reflection of how they live and are experienced. I believe therapy can give us the opportunity to rediscover our story in a new way. Real change is possible and the therapeutic relationship is one of the ways to cultivate that change. Areas of experience and interests: ADHD, adults, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, family of origin concerns, grief and loss, life transitions, mother abandonment, parenting, sexuality, sexual and physical trauma, trauma recovery Fee: I offer a sliding scale fee Insurances Accepted: United Healthcare, UPMC, Cigna, Highmark Therapeutic Style: Relational Psychotherapy, Narrative Therapy, Trauma-Informed, Family Systems Contact Autumn directly at 412-606-1887 or autumnkrusebrownlee@gmail.com
College is an exciting time though it can be an overwhelming one as well. College comes with its own unique set of challenges - increased workload, the need for greater time management, increased independence, and trying to find a good work-life balance, to name a few. College life can bring on new anxiety or exacerbate pre-existing anxiety, and managing this and coping in healthy and effective ways can prove difficult at times. Anxiety and stress can also trigger new or worsen pre-existing Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors (BFRBs), like Excoriation Disorder (skin picking) and Trichotillomania (hair pulling). If you are a female student struggling with anxiety and need help managing it, and/or are having a difficult time with BFRBs, I would love to work with you. Together we will work on identifying stressors/triggers as well as strategies and skills you can use to better manage your anxiety and/or your BFRB. I look forward to meeting you!

Many of the clients I see are dealing with some form of anxiety, depression, adjustment-related issue, or life transition. Most often, my clients are young adults who are having problems in interpersonal relationships, such as feeling extremely anxious in social situations, having difficulty finding or maintaining healthy relationships, struggling to communicate effectively with others, or experiencing uncertainty what their wants and needs are in a relationship. I have a great deal of experience working with students. My internship and postdoc were both in a university counseling center, and afterward, I was a psychology professor for a number of years. In these roles, I worked with both undergraduate and graduate students. Therefore, I'm very familiar with the challenges that students can face. Whatever it is that is getting in the way, I can help! I utilize evidence-based approaches and methods that have been proven to work. However, because there is no single approach that works for every person across all situations, I practice in a way that will be responsive to your unique needs. We may work on identifying problematic thoughts, putting new behaviors into action, or learning how to better identify, express, and manage your emotions. If your concern is relationship-related, we will explore your relationship patterns, identify factors that are having a negative impact on your relationships, and help you develop the skills to find and maintain healthy, fulfilling relationships. Regardless of the specifics, I place a prime emphasis on providing a safe, supportive environment that is free from judgment. My style has been described as highly collaborative.

Celebrate you through empowering, soul supportive work to guide you through life's journeys. Welcome to adulthood! Just kidding, but we're sure that's how you're feeling. Turning 18, graduating high school, and feeling the pressures of what you "should" be doing next feels overwhelming, confusing, and sometimes frustrating. "How do they expect me to know what I want to do for the next 60 years when I wasn't even allowed go to the bathroom a few months ago!" (Breathe a sigh of relief, because you do NOT have to have a 60-year life plan, we promise!) In a world with so many options, it can be easy to feel like maybe you don't know what to choose, or that the decision you've made might not be right. On your journey, it's natural and common - and totally okay! - to feel any and all of those feelings! Whether you are starting college, forgoing college, or doing something entirely unique, navigating the traditional "college age" part of your life can be a struggle. What you want is support. What you deserve is support. A time and space to explore your goals, your feelings, and your daily experiences without judgement, helping you find your footing and starting your post-college life with some more confidence and resilience than you've ever had before! And you know what, that's exactly what we're here for - to guide, support, and empower you through this awesome (but sometimes scary) journey in your life!
