Are you not where you want to be or struggling to be happy with where you are in life? Did you plan for things to be different at this moment in your journey through life? Most individuals go through this at some point in their lifetime and I'm here to help you navigate your journey to the path you want to be on. I have worked with diverse clientele for my background and with individuals who experience depression, anxiety, stress management, addiction, chronic pain, trauma and life transitions. The different therapeutic modalities I utilize include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Interviewing. I work to create a safe place that empowers clients to be their authentic selves while feeling seen and heard. I believe that my job as a therapist is to meet each individual where they are and to get them where they want to be.
Hi, I’m Emily. I work with students and adults who are navigating stress, relationships, life transitions, or the pressure of feeling like they have to keep everything together. I’m an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and welcome people from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. It’s important to me that therapy feels comfortable, respectful, and genuinely useful. My style is warm, collaborative, and thoughtful. You don’t need to come in with the right words or have everything figured out. We can slow things down, look at what may be happening beneath the surface, and find practical ways to make everyday life feel more manageable. My hope is that therapy helps you feel more grounded, more confident, and more connected to yourself.
Many of the clients I see are dealing with some form of anxiety, depression, adjustment-related issue, or life transition. Most often, my clients are young adults who are having problems in interpersonal relationships, such as feeling extremely anxious in social situations, having difficulty finding or maintaining healthy relationships, struggling to communicate effectively with others, or experiencing uncertainty what their wants and needs are in a relationship. I have a great deal of experience working with students. My internship and postdoc were both in a university counseling center, and afterward, I was a psychology professor for a number of years. In these roles, I worked with both undergraduate and graduate students. Therefore, I'm very familiar with the challenges that students can face. Whatever it is that is getting in the way, I can help! I utilize evidence-based approaches and methods that have been proven to work. However, because there is no single approach that works for every person across all situations, I practice in a way that will be responsive to your unique needs. We may work on identifying problematic thoughts, putting new behaviors into action, or learning how to better identify, express, and manage your emotions. If your concern is relationship-related, we will explore your relationship patterns, identify factors that are having a negative impact on your relationships, and help you develop the skills to find and maintain healthy, fulfilling relationships. Regardless of the specifics, I place a prime emphasis on providing a safe, supportive environment that is free from judgment. My style has been described as highly collaborative.

Hello there, Feeling stuck? Feeling stressed out about all the things that are competing for your attention? Wanting to change your relationship with yourself, so you can spread your wings and soar? I'm Stefan (he/him) and I want to be there on your journey. Starting therapy can feel scary, even if you've been in therapy before! To lower that intensity a bit, I want you to give you an idea of how I show up to sessions: - I get to know you - your family, friends, hobbies, shows, loves, fears, passions. - I celebrate and hype you up when you do the hard thing. - I ask questions to get you curious about patterns in your life, and point out when you might not be aware of them. - I offer compassion when your mind creates judgments about yourself. - I welcome and ask for feedback, knowing some things will land and others will not. - I laugh with you and value humor. - I tear up when you feel hurt or uncover a tender spot (while also holding space for you to feel). - I'll tell you I'm proud of you. - I nerd out about mental health, skills, approaches, and explain concepts in a way you'll understand. - I slow down and speed up based on your cues, and I give you choice in how we go about sessions. - I'm always working on our relationship, so there's trust and security when we get to difficult things. - I acknowledge the bigger systems of oppression that affect your life and lives of your loved ones. - I'm active and dynamic in sessions - sometimes asking questions, leading an activity, listening and reflecting, interrupting to highlight something you said, and synthesizing information and summarizing it back to you. All of this "I" is the effort I put into helping you get to "you": what you want, what you care about, your goals, dreams, your emotions, stressors, internal talk, and who you want to become and how you want to show up in life. Specialties: queer and trans identities and lived experiences, anxiety and depression, perfectionism, substance use, navigating family dynamics, healing trauma, couples and relationship work, career discernment Approaches: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR; trauma approach), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gottman Method (for relationship work), mindfulness and somatic interventions I'm an associate counselor, seeing clients through telehealth in Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, and California. Welcome to Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy! My name is Edward Chan, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy. I specialize in supporting Asian American college students and young adults as they navigate the unique challenges that can come from balancing personal goals, family expectations, cultural values, and the pressures of academic and professional success. Many Asian American students grow up carrying messages about achievement, responsibility, sacrifice, and making their families proud. While these values can be sources of strength, they can also contribute to anxiety, perfectionism, self-criticism, burnout, difficulty setting boundaries, and a persistent feeling of never being "good enough." You may find yourself succeeding on paper while privately struggling with stress, loneliness, imposter syndrome, or uncertainty about who you are beyond what you accomplish. Therapy offers a space to slow down and explore these experiences without judgment. Together, we can better understand the influences that have shaped you, process the challenges you're facing, and develop practical tools to manage anxiety, build self-confidence, strengthen relationships, and create a life that feels aligned with your own values—not just the expectations placed upon you. My approach integrates evidence-based therapies including CBT, ACT, DBT, and insight-oriented therapy while remaining sensitive to the cultural, familial, and identity-related experiences that many Asian American students navigate. Whether you're struggling with academic pressure, family dynamics, relationships, career decisions, or your sense of belonging, you don't have to carry it alone. At Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy, I strive to create a space where the experiences that often go unspoken can be explored openly, helping you cultivate greater self-understanding, balance, and fulfillment as you navigate college and beyond.
Specializing in the treatment of anxiety and obsessive-compulsive related disorders, I value the importance of utilizing evidence-based treatments to help you live your valued life. I believe in the importance of the therapeutic relationship and seek to cultivate this through trust, respect, and empathy. During our work, you’ll learn to utilize practical strategies to help you cope, identify and work though unhelpful thinking patterns, reengage with areas of your life that have been avoided, and improve your overall confidence.
When you make the decision to attend therapy, you are making the decision to prioritize your wellbeing in a fundamentally unique way. Therapy is something that can be challenging, but also transformative– Especially for those who have not been listened to, believed, or had the freedom to pause and practice introspection due to the demands of life. Knowing the challenges of finding a therapist who can understand your life experiences, I prioritize working with communities with whom I share personal experience. This includes, but is not limited to: LGBTQIA+, polyamorous/ENM, BDSM/kink, sex worker, SA/DV survivors, neurodivergent, chronically ill & disabled communities. My work is grounded in Relational-Cultural Therapy, which emphasizes the importance of the relationship between therapist and client as an essential part of the therapeutic process. I aim to minimize power dynamics in the room between therapist and client, and firmly believe you are the expert of your life. Rather than an authority in the room, I see my role as a collaborator in helping you achieve your therapy goals. For those who wish to know my social location: I am a Black, queer, disabled, neurodivergent, polyamorous, non-binary therapist in my 30s. I come from a middle-class background in a mixed race household, am a US citizen, and was raised Catholic but am not religious. I approach therapy as a team effort grounded in trauma-informed, anti-racist, fat liberatory, sex & kink positive, and feminist ideals. My therapy practice is eclectic, borrowing from multiple modalities in order to find the best approach for each individual client, couple, or polycule. Common approaches I incorporate include: EFT (emotion focused therapy), IFS (internal family systems), Sex Therapy, and Attachment Theory. I work with clients on a variety of topics, but special interests include: Unpacking attachment wounds using IFS; Transition stages in Poly/ENM; Freedom from shame regarding sex & kink; Impacts of disability; Relationships to health, disordered eating, and/or fatness from a fat liberatory and body neutrality lens. If you are curious about working together, please email lowell@expressyourselftherapynyc.com to set up a free consultation.

Hello! And welcome! I'm so glad you're here. My particular interest is helping individuals strengthen their connections. I think the most important things in our lives are our relationships. But let’s face it, we’re imperfect humans, and staying connected takes intention and effort. I help clients build fulfilling relationships by improving communication, deepening emotional connection, navigating conflict, and staying connected through difficult moments. This includes learning to be vulnerable, taking accountability when we get it wrong, and repairing the hurts and moments of disconnection that inevitably happen in relationships. I provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for clients to share their stories while helping to empower them to make changes, create meaning, and discover ways to enjoy life. I am welcoming and affirming of diversity including, but not limited to, race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, political stance, body size, age, and ability.
My work and experience have allowed me to aid individuals in many age brackets. I am able to be adaptable to meet the needs of the individuals in front of me. While I specialize in treating Anxiety, Depression, Mood Disorders and traumas, I have the capacity to assist with a range of issues and problems people may present with. I am working on national certification in EMDR and work to use this approach to help others suffering from traumatic experiences to move forward. I want to be able to understand my clients to build trust and connection. Much of the beginning sessions are spent building this through clear expectations.
