Therapists for college students near Denver, CO
James Isenhour
I am a therapist specializing in a wide range of concerns, including ADHD, anxiety, depression, identity issues, LGBTQIA+ identity and relationships, life transitions, men's health, relationship issues, self-esteem, sexual health, stress management, and student mental health — working with patients of all ages. With more than eight years of experience in direct care mental health settings and a background as a former educator, I bring a unique perspective to the therapeutic relationship. I believe that healing is a collaborative process and am committed to working alongside people from all walks of life to help you navigate your challenges and discover solutions that are right for you. My practice is founded on evidence-based and integrative modalities, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), humanistic, and collaborative approaches. Rather than applying a one-size-fits-all method, I tailor therapy to meet you where you are. My goal is to create a space where processing your experiences, build new understanding, and work toward meaningful goals all come together, so that every session moves you forward in a way that feels both grounded and purposeful. My path to becoming a therapist grew naturally out of my work as an educator. Many of my former students sought me out specifically, recognizing that they needed someone to direct and honest with them about their patterns and behaviors. Being surrounded by therapists throughout that time, I found myself continually inspired by the depth and impact of their work. That inspiration led me here. Today, I bring that same directness into the therapy room, helping you explore how your feelings and emotions connect to your history and how patterns, often without our awareness. By shining a light on those cycles, we can begin to understand them and, together, find a new way forward. Outside of the office, you can find me practicing hot yoga, spending time outdoors, playing video games, making art, or catching up on reality TV. These varied interests keep me grounded and remind me of the importance of joy, creativity, and rest, all values I bring into my work with you.

In the therapy room, I ground my practice in integrity, responsibility, justice, and respect. I believe in equality within the therapeutic relationship and strive to empower clients to maintain an active role in their healing. I also highly value creativity and openness, and enjoy personalizing therapeutic work to each individual’s unique needs. Additionally, wellness, growth, and lifelong learning are central values that guide both my personal and professional life. I believe in treating the whole person—mind, body, and behavior—and in co-creating treatment plans that reflect each client’s unique experiences, values, and goals. I work with teens, adults, and couples, and I am especially passionate about supporting individuals navigating trauma, anger, serious mental illness, depression, and chronic pain. At the heart of my work is the belief that we are all doing the best we can with what we have—and that growth, change, and healing are always possible. In the therapy room, I strive to create a calm, supportive, and collaborative space where clients feel seen and empowered. I value creativity, humor, and openness; and I love celebrating growth!

WELCOME! I'm so glad you're here. Many of the people I work with are adults who’ve carried more than their fair share — the ones who look capable on the outside but feel anxious or disconnected on the inside. They've usually spent years masking ADHD/AuDHD, are deeply sensitive, and/or are trying to heal from complex trauma (CPTSD). If this sounds like you, I want you to know you're not alone, and you don’t have to keep trying to “figure it out” by yourself. I won’t hand you a checklist or tell you to breathe it away - I promise! Therapy with me is about noticing what’s alive for you and finding ways to move through patterns that have kept you stuck. With over 25 years of experience, and decades dedicated to my own recovery, I offer both professional expertise and a deeply lived understanding to our sessions. I’m quirky, a little unconventional, and definitely human. In our work together, we'll go beyond simply talking about your life. I'll help you to shift out of over-thinking and connect with the wisdom of your heart and body. That’s where your strength and self-trust already live, and where the parts of you that know how to heal can be heard. My therapy dog, Leasel, often joins us, offering her calm presence when words aren’t enough. I draw from approaches like EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Somatic Therapy, integrated with Conscious Living principles. This work helps us uncover patterns that have been shaping your experiences and guides you toward change that's meaningful and actually lasts. Why I May Be A Good Fit For You I believe complex trauma shapes how we connect and move through the world—but those patterns can soften when we’re met with compassion and someone who’s been there. I grew up in a family that looked good on the outside but was marked by addiction and narcissism and it taught me how essential it is to be seen for who we truly are. I'm passionate about helping sensitive people know that hope is real, no matter what. I believe healing happens when we can be honest with ourselves and experience real connection. I show up as a real person—warm and down-to-earth. I also believe animals and nature offer healing when words fall short. I care deeply about neurodivergent folks, LGBTQIA+ inclusion, and creating space for anyone who’s ever felt like they're on the outside looking in. I look forward to connecting with you!

As a strength-based, relational Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) specializing in interpersonal, mental, and physical trauma for adults, I help you navigate challenges in communication, advocate for your needs, and grieve how trauma has altered your life, often without your consent. My approach centers on nuanced, culture-specific intervention so you can build safety and stability. Trauma work is a particular focus of mine, and I also have a passion for working with people who have Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD). Accountability and autonomy are things I believe in deeply, and they shape how I show up for you as your therapist. I look forward to collaborating with you and creating safety in our work together. Establishing a safe, nonjudgmental space to create connection is where my approach begins. You can expect an honest, calm environment as we work together, as I am passionate about how our brains and bodies work to keep us safe, even when that instinct doesn’t always serve us in the way we need. I use person-centered therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as my main methods, helping you create comfort and stability within yourself, accept what you cannot change, and take ownership of what you can influence. My style is adaptive, and I tailor my approach to your unique experiences and needs. My path to becoming a therapist began with a desire to build my emotional intelligence and challenge my internalized biases, trauma, and feelings of inauthenticity. During my journey of self-discovery, I fell in love with psychology, the human brain, and providing a safe space for others to rediscover their own internal sense of self-worth and value. This love developed even further after my own diagnosis of OCD, which greatly impacted my ability to be present in my own life, and after meeting several professionals who met my anxiety and distress head-on while still being compassionate and kind. These experiences deepened my desire to provide evidence-based care rooted in unflinching understanding. I blend science and empathy into each session, offering reasons why humans act the way they do alongside compassion for how distressing this can feel, especially when autonomy has been stripped away by others, life, or a mental health diagnosis of their own. I love reading, playing video games, and spending time with my puppy. I also enjoy growing flowering plants and painting my nails, two hobbies that don't always mix well, plus crocheting whenever I have the time.
Creative Growth Counseling
Hello and Welcome! Taking the initial step of finding a therapist and beginning the journey of healing can be scary and awkward at first. At Creative Growth Counseling, you'll find compassionate Tele-health therapy services utilizing a blend of traditional talk therapy, EMDR, other creative techniques, and most importantly humor and relationship. I enjoy working with college aged folks who are struggling with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, attachment issues/relationship struggles, and many other unique and personal challenges. I am passionate about meeting my clients where they are in their lives by encouraging existing strengths and healing wounds to support the emotional growth of each individual need. If you're looking for personal growth, healing from past experiences, or just wanting a safe space to express yourself I will listen empathetically, help you access the strengths you already have inside you, and help you learn to find new ways to grow through what life brings. I am glad you are here and I am honored to be let into the life of each person I work with and value the therapeutic relationship most importantly. I am always humbled and amazed at the resiliency and strengths that I am shown through my work with others, and I thank you for sharing a piece of yourself with me. - Meag Hisscock, LCSW
Discover Peace Within
We all face challenges, stressors, traumas, losses, and changes in life. Especially as women. Especially now. We are supposed to have it all, do it all, be it all. For everyone. All the time. Like yesterday. At Discover Peace Within, we recognize that as a human being, you have access to a reservoir of strength, resiliency, and peace within you. Yet, right now, you feel so far away from that sense of peace. Your childhood trauma keeps repeating itself in your relationships. Your low self-esteem makes you say “yes” when you mean “no.” You’re constantly worried if you belong. You lay awake at night wondering if you said the right thing? Did the right thing? You’re fearful of being “too much” while also feeling “not enough.” Life is happening so fast - you feel that you can’t keep up. You want to feel closer to yourself. Your true self. Not the self that you present to the world. Or to your boss and co-workers. Or even friends or family. You know what living in your true self feels like. You’ve had glimpses of it before. When your body-mind-spirit all clicked into place. You know she’s still there. She’s underneath all of the trauma from childhood. Or the messages from others about what you SHOULD be. What society makes you believe you HAVE to do. You’re blocked from making choices that YOU want to make. You’re held back from going for that job, putting yourself out there with friends, or resting when you need to. You struggle seeing the good in you. And yet, there is a voice within you, reminding you of your true self. Therapy can be a helpful place to get back to you. To get back to your true self. Working with a therapist at Discover Peace Within can offer you a sacred space - a time dedicated solely to you and your needs. A time for you to heal. Take a chance on you to discover peace within and book an appointment now.

Has someone gone quiet when you mentioned how your person died, or said "at least they're at peace now"? Grief after a suicide or overdose loss carries an isolation most people never have to explain. If that's you, or you're facing any sudden death, painful breakup, ambiguous loss, or traumatic transition, you don't have to carry it alone. As founder of Vargas Counseling and Consulting and a nationally-recognized grief therapist, DU Graduate School of Social Work professor, and Director of Grief Outreach Programs, I've worked with thousands of bereaved individuals and trained dozens of clinicians and peer helpers in complex loss. I provide highly specialized, trauma-informed grief counseling rooted in Narrative Therapy and relational care. We won't try to "fix" your pain or rush your timeline. Instead, I leverage my deep expertise to help you safely externalize the weight of your loss, process emotional trauma, and gently rebuild meaning, clarity, and hope for your future. You do not have to carry this heavy isolation alone. Healing from painful loss starts by taking one small step. I invite you to reach out today to schedule a free 15-minute consultation call. I believe we don't have to face life's difficult moments alone. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, chronic stress, questions about identity and belonging, or navigating a new stage of life, I aim to work collaboratively as we define goals, and build resilience and self-awareness. I work with all ages, though primarily work with adults and have experience working with military personnel and their families, individuals diagnosed with chronic medical conditions, college students and first responders. I strive to create a welcoming, safe environment as we work collaboratively towards your goals. As both a counselor and art therapist, I often invite creativity into the therapeutic process as a way to deepen self-expression and self-exploration when word not longer suffice. My work is rooted in trauma informed, person-centered and non-pathologizing care. One of the things I value most as a therapist is remaining open to learning. I am passionate about understanding the many identities, cultures, and experiences that shape our lives and about recognizing how larger systems and environments influence our wellbeing. I strive to meet each client with respect, curiosity, and genuine care.
