With a patient-focused approach, I tailor treatment plans for your unique needs to optimize your mental health and wellness. I specialize in ADHD, depression, autism and working with gender-diverse and other LGBTQ+ individuals. I believe in using a flexible and collaborative approach to treatment, helping to guide you through the hard choices of what is right for you and your mental health. I treat a variety of psychiatric disorders. I pull from many therapeutic techniques including CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, Family Therapy, Supportive Therapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Existential Therapy, all through a psychodynamic lens. Ultimately, I believe the relationship between the clinician and the patient is the most important factor. I completed my medical school and adult psychiatry residency at the University of Colorado. I came to Boston to complete a child and adolescent fellowship at Boston Children’s Hospital through Harvard Medical School. Come as you are. I hope to help.
Deciding to make and sustain change can be challenging. It's normal to feel ambivalent. I will meet you where you are, and help you define and pursue your own goals. I believe that your journey is unique, and you are the only one who can define what success means for you. My practice focuses on providing a safe, trauma-informed, judgment-free space where healing can begin. I am a physician board certified in Internal Medicine and in Addiction Medicine. I have extensive experience with behavioral health treatment. I provide therapy and medication management, when appropriate. My approach is rooted in empathy, authenticity, curiosity and pragmatism.
My work is relationally based, and I additionally integrate the approaches of Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Internal Family Systems (IFS), which are both mind/body modalities. These approaches have been transformational for myself and many clients I have witnessed because they offer an orientation of radical openness and compassionate inquiry about all parts of your experience.
If you are reading this - I applaud you for taking the first step to prioritize yourself! I use a strength-based, nonjudgmental approach to therapy. I truly believe that life is about self-discovery and enjoy working with clients to create a safe space to heal and grow.
My approach to therapy is active, relational, and result-oriented, encouraging clients to take hold of their life and find the meaning life holds for them. I serve as Director of Cambridge Counseling Associates and have served as lecturer and clinical instructor in psychology at Harvard Medical School for more than twenty years, in addition to serving on the Advisory Board of the Dr. Phil Show, where I have participated since its inception. Therapy opens the door to a rewarding process for personal freedom, growth, and fulfillment by understanding and changing patterns and routines that may have made you feel stuck, unproductive, and unhappy. My goal is to help you experience your true self to fully engage your life. (See drchirban.com or cambridgecounseling.com) My specializations include relationships, sexuality, and spirituality. As a therapist and yoga teacher, I strive to provide a welcoming space where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves and supported in achieving their treatment goals. First, we will work together to deepen understanding of your current stressors and then identify areas for healing and growth. We will explore a variety of therapeutic techniques together and I am committed to helping you discover what works best for you. My therapeutic style is collaborative and strength-based. I draw upon a myriad of clinical interventions including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, self-compassion research, as well as various yogic and meditative practices. Together we will identify interventions and tools that best serve your unique treatment goals. I firmly believe that healing is possible within the therapeutic relationship and have witnessed clients develop the skills to move through life's challenges with greater ease. It has been a privilege to have served so many on their journey towards well-being, and I am hopeful that I may be able to assist you as well.
I work with anxious, overwhelmed women, including college students, young adults, millennials, and moms, who often feel stuck in their heads, emotionally drained, or unsure of themselves despite appearing capable and successful on the outside. You may be struggling with overthinking, perfectionism, people-pleasing, stress, social anxiety, self-doubt, burnout, life transitions, or the pressure of trying to keep up with everyone's expectations while figuring out what you truly want for yourself. Using CBT, mindfulness, and holistic approaches, I help you better understand your patterns, manage anxiety, navigate big emotions, build self-confidence, and create healthier boundaries. Together, we'll work toward reducing overwhelm, quieting your inner critic, and helping you feel more grounded, balanced, and connected to what matters most. Therapy is an opportunity to slow down, gain clarity, explore your identity and goals, and develop practical tools to navigate life's challenges with greater confidence and resilience. Whether you're adjusting to college, navigating a major life transition, struggling with relationships, or simply feeling lost, stuck, or overwhelmed, you don't have to figure it out alone. If you're ready to take the next step, I'd be honored to support you.
If you’ve been feeling anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, or just not like yourself lately, you’re not alone. Maybe you’re the one who always holds it together for everyone else, but inside, you're running on empty. Maybe you’re constantly second-guessing yourself or struggling to say no, even when you're burned out. Or maybe you're in the middle of a big life change and everything feels uncertain or heavier than you expected. You may be wanting to better understand yourself, set boundaries, and start living in a way that actually feels good-not just "good enough." My approach is trauma-informed, compassion-focused, and grounded in somatic and IFS principles. That means we’ll not only talk about what’s going on, but also gently tune into what your body, emotions, and inner parts are holding. I believe that healing happens when we feel safe and connected enough to really listen to ourselves with our whole being. You can expect a space where you don’t have to perform or minimize the parts of you that have felt too much, messy, or confusing. This work is about coming home to yourself. You don’t have to do it alone. If this resonates, I’d be honored to walk alongside you. Reach out when you’re ready—we’ll take it from there, together.
I believe that everyone has the strength and resilience already in themselves to overcome challenges, navigate difficult circumstances, and have meaningful connections with others. My approach to therapy is strength-based, holistic, and largely focuses on using mindfulness-based techniques and practices. In the last 14 years I have had the privilege to work with a wide variety of students from diverse backgrounds, cultures, identities, and lived experiences. I've had the privilege to work with first generation college students, international students, adult learners pursuing a second career, and younger students adjusting to independent life and college for the first time. In the past 4 years I have specialized in in working with college and graduate students pursuing advanced degrees in the health sciences field. I understand how challenging it can be to navigate these stressful times and how difficult it can be to find a balance between taking care of yourself and reaching your academic potential. It can get better and I'd like to help.
My clients are aware that something is not working and are motivated for change, even if they're not sure where exactly that change starts. My clients are often very conscious of the systemic stressors that make their lives more difficult, and come to me looking for support as they navigate challenges and imagine their futures. I specialize in identity exploration, trauma-focused practice, and LGBTQIA+ mental health. I use a blend of talk therapy and drama therapy to engage my clients in reflection on their present challenges from an embodied perspective, and provide a fuller understanding of how their past shows up in their present. I bring myself into my work, and hope to challenge the old idea that therapists inherently know more than their clients. You are the expert of your own life, and I would feel honored to be invited into your world. If you are interested in learning more about how I could support you, please be in touch.
