Are you going through a significant life event or change? Or are you ready to work through past distressing memories or traumatic events? Embarking on the therapeutic journey takes courage, as well as finding the right therapist. I specialize in helping those going through significant life events and discernment, individuals who experience depression, anxiety, grief, PTSD, as well as those who identify as LGBTQIA. I prefer to view therapeutic foci through an Adaptive Information Processing Model, rather than through a pathological lens. So many presenting symptoms are actually trauma-related, and that is where healing can start. What if your brain could heal itself? I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), which can be a powerful treatment for PTSD, anxiety, grief, performance improvement, depression and many other conditions. I am trained in the EMDR DeTUR protocol for urge reduction as well (focusing on addictions or other compulsive behaviors). In an effort to accommodate busy schedules, I offer evening and weekend appointments. Together, we will collaborate on goals and a plan while building upon your strengths. I look forward to hearing from you! If interested in EMDR therapy and curious about it, please see www.emdria.org for further information.

Hi! I'm Beth (she/her), an OCD and anxiety specialist. Many of my clients come to therapy feeling stuck in cycles of intrusive thoughts, self-doubt, reassurance-seeking, overthinking, and anxiety that seems to demand certainty before they can move forward. Using evidence-based approaches including ERP, I-CBT, and ACT, I help clients learn new ways of responding to fear and uncertainty so they can spend less time battling their thoughts and more time engaging in what matters most. I provide in-person therapy in Grand Haven, including traditional office sessions and walk & talk therapy, as well as virtual therapy throughout Michigan.

Being at a big university can be intimidating. For many years, I have been helping people gain insight into themselves to better understand their feeling. Times of transition and uncertainty can be stressful, but today there are many variables in this world which may create these big feelings. I work with clients through an interactive approach, trying to help them explore and verbalize what they are experiencing, and create a road map to help them reach their goals. I feel that we all demonstrate behaviors which we may not understand. Through exploration, I help clients "connect the dots" to help them gain insight as to why they do what they do. Once they have this understanding, it becomes more of a conscious choice as to how they wish to move forward. The client and I become a "team", trying to explore these issues together. Even though I see clients virtually, I can be seen visiting the MSU campus with my therapy dog, an Alaskan Malamute named Ichabod. We often attend on-campus events and are present for the "Out of the Darkness Walk" for the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention(AFSP). My areas of expertise are helping people who struggle with anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma and struggles with transition.

From our practice website: "We understand that going to see a therapist can be a very difficult decision. We are committed to ensuring our clients are treated with the utmost respect and sensitivity. Initially, we work with the the client to gain an understanding of their concerns. From there, we create and implement a treatment plan geared to the client (or families) goals. We actively and continuously seek feedback to make sure that our clients are getting their needs met. Research has consistently demonstrated that the quality of the relationship between a therapist and their client is at the core of whether therapy will be successful. Using our skills and experiences, we work to create a safe and trusting environment to meet your goals. We use a strength-based approach in working with our clients. Often, we build upon these strengths to create interventions that will help. We utilize evidenced based treatments whenever possible. This means the approaches we use are well researched and found to be helpful in addressing the presenting challenges. Our team continues to receive training and professional development as we believe that as therapists we are never done learning. When we work with children and teens, we believe that parents are the expert. We believe parental involvement is a critical component of the treatment. Our approach is to create a “team environment” that includes the child, family, school (when necessary), physician, and therapist to provide the optimal level of support to address whatever problems the child is experiencing. Since the child is the most important person in this effort, he or she becomes the “captain” of this team. We will always address your child respectfully and in a developmentally appropriate manor. We know and appreciate that you are entrusting us with you or a family member’s care. We will do everything we can to make our work together a helpful and enriching experience."
