Therapists for college students near New York, NY
Are you struggling to feel understood in therapy? Are you having trouble within your relationships and feeling like you have no idea what to do? Are you interested in exploring who you are and what is happening inside you? Do you want to engage with more coping skills? Then I might be the therapist for you. I work best with clients or couples who are under the queer, trans, and BIPOC umbrellas. I also specialize in working with sex workers, avoidance/ dissociation patterns, identity/gender/sexuality exploration, sex/intimacy, communication, confidence/ self-esteem, boundaries, non-monogamy, and shame/guilt. Your input and experiences are paramount in our work together. In therapy, I will draw upon a variety of modalities such as narrative therapy, CBT, somatic work, creative arts therapies, and parts work to help us get closer to your ideals and goals. As a trans-femme, queer, bigger-bodied, white-latine, southerner I know how difficult and sometimes dangerous vulnerability can be. I know this as a human being, as a counselor, and as a person in a position of power. Your vulnerability will be honored and cared for with me as well as all of the intersections of power, privilege, and identity that you share.
As a mental health counselor with 4 years of experience, I help college-aged and older adults navigate feelings of overwhelm, disconnectedness, and confusion in their lives, supporting them through life transitions, family stress, trauma, academic and career pressures, identity exploration, daily stressors, and interpersonal relationship issues. My style is eclectic and guiding, as I believe in authenticity that allows me to be direct, honest, and inviting. I look forward to helping empower you to achieve your goals in our work together. *Appointments are available for patients who can communicate in both English and Russian and/or who culturally would feel more comfortable with someone who is Russian speaking. I'm passionate about how therapy can be a transformative process that empowers you to better understand yourself and live with greater clarity, balance, and fulfillment. My approach is humanistic and holistic, a style that ensures a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental environment tailored to your unique experiences and goals. Treatment includes integrative psychodynamic therapy, Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and relational evidence-based interventions to help you process and explore beliefs about the world and yourself. My path to becoming a therapist started at St. Francis's College Counseling Center, where I worked as a student counselor. This experience taught me the value of providing empathetic and strength-based care for emerging and older adults alike. Now, I remain committed to bringing a grounding and calming presence to each session, along with a deep respect for every person’s unique lived experience. In my free time I often enjoy calming activities that keep me grounded. These include going for long walks, reading, thrifting, visiting museums, and junk journaling.
My name is Weston Clay and I am a psychotherapist based in NYC. I specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, self-esteem, and identity and relationship issues. As a gay man myself, I enjoy working with other queer/LGBTQ+ people to work through the way our identities impacts our relationships with our peers, family members, and ourselves. I believe therapy works best when you feel safe with and seen by your therapist and so it is my job to make you feel comfortable with me, not yours. Anti-racism, body positivity, and all around inclusivity are also fundamental to my style of therapy.
I specialize in treating depression and anxiety, with a focus on individuals navigating family conflict, intergenerational trauma, and the unique stressors that can come with immigrant and international backgrounds. These experiences can shape how people view themselves, relate to others, and manage stress, often contributing to feelings of overwhelm, guilt, or emotional strain. I also specialize in working with patients navigating bipolar and other mood disorders, grief, substance use, and co-occurring mental health disorders. Therapy helps to better understand these patterns and experiences, while also building practical tools to manage symptoms. It can help you set boundaries, improve communication, and develop healthier ways of coping. When combined with appropriate medication management, this approach can lead to more stability and an improved sense of control in daily life. I am passionate about mental health because I believe everyone deserves to feel seen, heard, and understood. I strive to provide compassionate, culturally sensitive care that meets you where you are while supporting you in building insight, resilience, and meaningful change in your life.
Hi, I’m Dianne. I’m glad you’re here! I’m here to support you to be free from fear and anxiety, align to inner guidance, develop nourishing relationships, and make choices from a place of love, curiosity, and possibility. My intention is that our sessions allow you to feel deeply known, and that through our work you’ll feel more free to be authentic in your life and relationships. Together, we’ll get to know you — your patterns, your strengths, your desires — so you become your own best teacher, with me as a steady support along the way. I hold a Master’s of Social Work from Smith College. I’ve worked with individuals of diverse ages, identities, and backgrounds in community mental health in New York City and in educational settings including San Francisco International High School and Vassar College. I trained in post-abortion counseling with Exhale Pro Voice, and I participated in FemSex, now called GenSex, an anti-oppression workshop for people of all identities about sexuality, gender, consent, and privilege. Before returning to school to train as a therapist, I worked for several years in international women’s rights, food justice, and bilingual education. I draw from psychodynamic, relational, somatic, mindfulness, and compassion-based approaches. If you’re struggling with anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, or questions of meaning and purpose, let’s talk.
I work with adults and adolescents in psychotherapy and psychoanalysis, with children through play, and with couples and parents. My practice includes work with anxiety, depression, trauma, academic and professional challenges, relational and family dynamics, questions of identity and sexuality, and the complex experiences of immigration and displacement.
Therapy is a space to experience a type of listening that can be transformative. I work with individuals who want to understand themselves more deeply, particularly as they navigate grief, loss, and life transitions. Perhaps you have experienced a recent loss or transition that feels overwhelming, or perhaps you want to strengthen your connection with your partner. We will explore your history, relationships, and patterns with curiosity and care. Through deepening our understanding of ourselves, we can deepen our relationships with others while finding relief in the process. My approach is creative and grounded in curiosity, play, warmth, and authentic connection. I work from a psychodynamic perspective, incorporating attachment and meaning-making, as well as Emotionally Focused Therapy. I see my role as helping you connect to the strengths that are already present within you. Together, we will build a relationship that allows for growth and appreciates all parts of your identity. I value the depth of psychodynamic work alongside practical feedback that can help you navigate everyday challenges. I also believe in the power of a laugh.
You aren’t alone in your mental health struggles. As a mental health counselor for LGBTQIA folks, young adults, adults, and teens, I provide a gentle and collaborative environment for navigating issues relating to trauma, anxiety, depression, body image and shame, self-esteem, ADHD, OCD, identity exploration, family and life conflicts, low motivation, and emotional dysregulation. At all times, I believe in teamwork and accountability, remaining open to feedback and supportive in working toward your goals. I'm especially passionate about the concept of neuroplasticity (the brain's capacity to change, adapt, and form new neural pathways or ways of thinking) and humanism, which suggests we all naturally want to heal and self-actualize. I look forward to empowering your brain’s healing journey, fostering your personal growth, and navigating life's challenges in our work together. I'm dedicated to providing a safe, nonjudgmental space for vulnerability and self-expression. That’s why I take a warm, collaborative, and humorous approach to care, tailoring treatment to your unique needs. Your plan may include Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), psychodynamic/relational, and somatic techniques to explore different aspects of yourself, practice coping strategies, regulate your nervous system, and develop a new relationship with difficult thoughts and feelings. My own mental health challenges, alongside supporting family members through their mental illnesses, shaped my path toward therapeutic care. These personal experiences deepened my commitment to destigmatizing mental illness and demystifying therapy by providing accessible care that makes people feel seen and heard. I bring this anti-oppressive and culturally responsive perspective to my practice now, ensuring care that is grounded in the understanding that cultural expectations, intergenerational patterns, shame, and systemic barriers can deeply influence how safe and comfortable someone feels in therapy. In my free time, I love immersing myself in the great outdoors, from swimming to camping beneath the stars. I also enjoy the arts: water coloring, watching a fantastic show or movie, and crafting!

Therapy is a powerful tool for reflection and change. Whether working with teens or adults, my approach is insightful and exploratory, helping clients uncover unconscious patterns. Sometimes, we become stuck in painful or unsatisfying ways of being and need a safe space to learn, heal, and grow. I commonly work with issues such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, trauma, life transition, and relationships. In our work together, I help clients understand the impact of past experiences on the present, with a focus on the here-and-now. I also incorporate breathing and mindfulness practices to help manage everyday stress.

Your customized treatment plan may include psychodynamic and person-centered therapies, integrated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectal Behavior Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), and relational therapy to guide you in reaching your goals. My passion for therapy grew from wanting to be a safe space for people going through difficult periods and feeling like they have no one they can talk to. As someone who lacked this outlet as a teenager, I understood the value of providing unconditional, compassionate care. In my practice now, I remain committed to bringing a humanizing perspective to the therapeutic relationship, grounded in the belief that we all share similar emotions and life experiences, in order to ensure patients feel seen, understood, and supported in every session. In my free time, I enjoy spending time outdoors and staying active through sports like soccer, tennis, wake surfing, skiing (downhill and cross-country), running marathons, yoga, and other workouts; as well as by hiking, taking long walks, and being near the beach or mountains. I also enjoy reading self-help books, watching psychological thrillers and rom-coms, listening to music, cooking healthy meals, and spending meaningful time with friends — staying present and unplugged from phones whenever possible.
As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor working with adults 18 and over, I help people navigate anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, life transitions, and the unconscious patterns that may be limiting their growth. At the heart of my work is a belief in the healing power of self-awareness and the therapeutic relationship. This belief helps me show up as a compassionate and collaborative partner throughout your therapeutic journey. I look forward to helping you build insight, emotional freedom, and more fulfilling relationships in our work together. I'm passionate about helping people develop greater self-awareness and create meaningful, lasting change by understanding the deeper roots of their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors — and I bring that same spirit of inquiry to every session. My specialty is psychodynamic and relational therapy, practiced in a space that is warm, nonjudgmental, and tailored to you. With a psychodynamic lens, we explore how unconscious patterns from past relationships shape your present thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In relational therapy, the therapeutic relationship itself becomes a mirror, a way to uncover patterns of connection that may be affecting how you relate to others and to yourself. No matter the modality, I ensure a compassionate, collaborative, and curious approach that is personalized to your unique history, goals, and lived experiences. My path to becoming a therapist began with a lifelong curiosity about why people are the way they are and how their life experiences influence who they become. That curiosity grew into a passion for helping others make sense of their stories. Now, my commitment has grown into a dedication to thoughtful, relationship-centered care that honors each person's unique story. Into every session, I bring genuine curiosity and a commitment to exploring the deeper roots of emotional patterns. Outside of the therapy room, I enjoy reading fiction, staying active through exercise, and spending quality time with friends – all hobbies that help me recharge, stay grounded, and appreciate the importance of balance, connection, and lifelong learning. They also teach me insightful values that influence the way I approach my work as a therapist.
I work with clients who experience trauma, whether it is childhood sexual, physical, or emotional abuse, or more recent traumatic events. You might wish to forget about it by not talking about it, but it often comes back and “haunts” you. The best way to deal with a “ghost” is to talk about it and take away its power over you. It is normal that you want to avoid it. However, the worst part of Trauma is that it continues. I would like to help you work through it, separate the past from the present so you can move on with your life. I am also very much interested in working on Women’s Issues, life transitions, anxiety, and depression. You might feel compelled to behave in certain ways, and you don't understand your thoughts, feelings, and actions. Together, we will explore what works for you and what doesn’t by listening and seeking understanding. I will help reflect on any parts you did not understand before. With more information about yourself, you will be able to make better choices. I partner with teens and adults to navigate the complexities of trauma, intimate partner violence, and self-harm. Together, we work to understand fear, anger, shame, guilt, and envy, these difficult and painful emotions, rebuild your self-esteem, and cultivate a sense of resilience. I am licensed in New York and New Jersey and offer both online therapy and in-person sessions at my office located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. I am fluent in both English and Mandarin

Welcome! I'm Madeleine Conner, a Licensed Master of Social Work (LMSW) with five years of experience supporting children, adolescents, and adults through personal challenges, including life transitions, anxiety, attachment issues, mood disturbances, trauma, and stress. Three of those years have been dedicated specifically to delivering trauma-informed therapy services to early childhood populations. Emotional regulation and psychodynamic therapy are at the center of my work, and I use these approaches to help patients of all ages explore how their experiences shape their emotions, thoughts, and relationships. My commitment is to extend the best care, support, and counseling to each person I have the privilege of working with. Compassion and collaboration are the foundation of everything I do in the therapy room. I tailor my approach to your unique needs, goals, and experiences, because no two people, and no two paths, are the same. Working together, you can expect a space that is customized to your objectives and rooted in genuine human connection. I believe a strong collaborative relationship is key to promoting meaningful growth, and I draw on person-centered therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), among other evidence-based approaches, to help you develop insight and gain practical tools for navigating life's challenges. From an early age, I had an innate ability to hold space for others. I was often the person friends could turn to with the parts of themselves they didn't feel safe sharing elsewhere. Those moments let me witness firsthand the power of empathy and support, and they planted the seed for the work I do today. That lifelong desire to help others feel understood, accepted, and supported led me to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Spanish from Amherst College, and then a Master of Social Work from New York University. Each step deepened my understanding of what it means to truly show up for another person, and that understanding is what I bring into every session with you. When I'm not working, you'll find me painting, crocheting, singing, doing yoga, or spending time with my dog, Hank. I also just learned how to play Mah Jongg!
My areas of focus include mood and anxiety disorders, OCD, trauma and PTSD, and borderline personality disorder. I have experience treating OCD using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP). I provide psychoeducation and appropriate treatment options for trauma and PTSD, and I evaluate patients for borderline personality disorder, especially those with a history of multiple medication trials. I empower my patients by teaching them dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills to help them manage their symptoms and gain insight into how their life experiences affect their current emotions. I'm passionate about educating patients on the importance of validating their emotional experiences, whether they are feelings of happiness, sadness, anger, or anxiety. I also reinforce the importance of nutrition and sleep in treating mental health conditions. I collaborate with my patients by listening with curiosity and regularly asking for feedback on how I can best assist them, whether through practicing skills or helping them build insight. I create a judgment-free space where all emotions are valid and informative, while teaching that reactions can be adjusted to align with personal values.
Many of the clients I work best with are international students navigating life far from home—often balancing academic pressure, cultural adjustment, and questions of identity and belonging, all while holding emotions they may not feel safe expressing elsewhere. They may appear high-functioning on the outside, yet feel disconnected, lonely, or uncertain inside. Our work together offers a space to slow down, make sense of what they’re carrying, and reconnect with parts of themselves that have been silenced or split across languages, cultures, or expectations.
