Therapists for college students near University of Texas at Austin
Hi! My name is Natasha Backman, and I'm passionate about creating spaces where people can explore their innermost thoughts and emotions. Life can be challenging, and we all deserve a space to get curious about where we’ve been and where we’re going. I'm here to support you, whether you've engaged in counseling before or you need help understanding how this process works. I know that therapy can be a weird and wonderful space. It is our time for healing and growth, in which the only pretense is that we give space for the most authentic version of ourselves. I have experience working with clients who have goals related to processing trauma, exploring their gender and sexual identity, and recovering from drug and alcohol use. Identity impacts the ways in which we interact with mental health resources, and I welcome conversations about race, power, and privilege. Counseling can be a place for processing painful experiences and emotional work in pursuit of change. At the same time, it can be a space of connection through laughter and compassion. I launched my private practice because I believe in the restorative power of the counseling process. I look forward to hearing your story.
Do you find yourself thinking, "Something is wrong. Why am I feeling this way?" Do you have times when you feel overwhelmed and tense? Are you afraid of failing and that you will never feel good enough? I want to help ease your anxiety and walk with you through your depression. I'll help shine some light on your concerns, so that you will not have to feel alone in your thoughts and feelings. We're going to figure this out together. My role as your therapist is to help you gain the knowledge of your symptoms, the skills to ground and calm your body and mind, and the supportive resources within yourself and your environment to create the life you desire. Together, we will address where your concerns began and led you to where you are now. Shedding light on how your anxieties and depression were created can be a powerful and healing experience. My ultimate goal is for you to have discrete tools and techniques that you can use wherever you may be. I have had the opportunity to work in multiple settings including psychiatric hospitals, outpatient centers, autism clinics, private practice, a school, & a non-profit agency; this has led me to tailor my counseling techniques for each unique individual in their environment. I would be honored to guide you through this journey, whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, trauma, life transitions, or relational difficulties.

Frustrated with juggling the demands of caregiving in your family? I offer therapies that do not require much talking. I am a Certified Brainspotting Therapist, I am EMDR-trained, and offer Accelerated Resolution Therapy. We are not biologically wired to cope with life alone. Even if we are not "alone" sometimes the ones we love lack the ability to fully support or understand us. Even if they may be a solid part of our support system. This is where therapy comes in. I specialize in guiding individuals through the intricate terrain of strong emotions. I have completed extensive training and research on healing strategies targeted for those trying to heal from adverse life experiences, trauma, ptsd, c-ptsd (attatchment/early childhood wounds) anxiety, depression, anger, and borderline personality disorder. **Treatment Modalities:** I am trained in EMDR, designed to reduce emotional distress due to traumatic life experiences. I also have special training in its use for helping those with borderline personality disorder and early childhood wounds, and anxiety-related issues. EMDR is considered a first-line treatment for trauma and has been shown to reduce emotional distress and accelerate the healing process. In addition, I use cognitive processing therapy (CPT), which has similar aims through different treatment techniques. Somatic (mind-body) techniques are also incorporated throughout the treatment process. We can talk about what will be the best fit for you. I also incorporate dialectical behavioral therapy (DBT) and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) skills for emotion regulation to tackle issues such as anxiety, depression, and anger. My clients will have take-home strategies that they can use outside of therapy. If you think we would be a good fit, I can be reached by call, text, or email.

Are you a queer, BIPOC, or neurodivergent person struggling with relentless self-criticism? It might feel like you can’t stop beating yourself up and feeling like you’re not good enough, no matter how hard you try. This self-doubt can be reinforced by others treating you differently and the systemic oppression which is present in so many aspects of our world today. If you’re ready to escape from a shame spiral, you’ve come to the right place. Welcome! My name is Sajl, and I’m a nonbinary and South Asian therapist based in Frisco, TX. I work with motivated and insightful teens and adults via telehealth to liberate themselves from self-hatred. My goal is to provide you with an affirming, compassionate, and honest therapeutic space in which you are free to explore and understand where these beliefs stem from. Together, we’ll get to the root cause of your pain and help you develop a kinder and gentler inner voice. As a young queer person of color, I know what it’s like to be unsure of whether aspects of my identity will be accepted in new spaces. Rest assured, every aspect of what makes you who you are is invited when we share space together. My therapeutic approach is culturally sensitive, identity-affirming, and liberation-centered. I incorporate aspects of acceptance and commitment therapy, relational cultural therapy, and attachment theory to help you understand and face your pain with courage and compassion. If you’re ready to release the burden of the pain you’ve been carrying, I would be honored to lighten your load and walk alongside you in the path towards healing.
I work with adults who may be struggling with adjustment issues, stress, anxiety, and depression. My approach to therapy is being open, empowering and meeting you where you are. The environment that I create is one of trust and peace. I want you to be yourself. My job is to create a safe space for you to communicate openly and freely in a trusting, nonjudgmental environment. I believe that you are the expert on all things you. Collaboration is key in our work together so that you can develop goals that are attainable, reflect your needs and strengths and enhance your life in a positive way.
I work best with women who are navigating major life transitions and feeling overwhelmed, disconnected, or unsure of themselves. Many of my clients are in seasons like pregnancy, postpartum, early motherhood, or adjusting to shifting roles and identities. They may struggle with anxiety, mood changes, emotional overwhelm, or feeling like they’ve lost a sense of who they are. My clients often care deeply about their families but feel exhausted trying to hold everything together. They may feel unseen, invalidated, or alone in their experiences. They want a space where they can be honest without judgment and begin to understand themselves more clearly. If you’re looking for support that feels compassionate, grounded, and focused on helping you reconnect with yourself, you’re likely a great fit for my practice.
You might struggle with a harsh inner critic, where anything less than perfection feels like failure, causing you to question your self-worth. This can lead to persistent feelings of guilt, shame, or inadequacy. The definition of success you inherited may not align with your desires, creating cognitive dissonance and internal conflict. You may have a path you want to follow for your life, but fear disappointing those around you, or you may struggle to define your goals at all. You deserve a therapist who understands your story. Former software engineer turned therapist, I understand pressures of high expectations and stressful environments. As a first-generation immigrant with 8 years in IT, multiple degrees, and clinical experience, I offer a unique cultural and psychological perspective. Together, we'll move beyond perfectionism and negative self-talk to find strength and joy. Our cultures of origin are beautiful, but they have unique challenges. As a South Asian therapist, I empathize deeply with your struggles. I have experience working with clients from diverse backgrounds, and I love creating a warm and calming environment where you can be confident you will be understood and accepted. I am one of the leading experts in pre-surgical psychological evaluations. I have authored a book titled "Psychological Assessment of Surgical Candidates: Evidence-Based Procedures and Practices" and actively engage in society work associated with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery to advance training and science related to bariatric surgery. My clinical training experiences have largely centered around assessing the intersections of medical/health, psychological, and social aspects of individuals to facilitate successful outcomes in medical settings. With training from some of the leading experts in psychological assessment, I am also proficient in conducting disability/worker's compensation evaluations, pre-employment screening, and general psychodiagnostic evaluations in addition to pre-surgical assessments. I am licensed in the state of Texas (#38086) and hold a PsyPact license to practice in other states. My research focuses on understanding how psychological factors contribute to medical outcomes. I have over 60 peer-reviewed publications, primarily focused on pre-surgical psychological evaluations and their predictive value for various outcomes. I use my research findings to assist patients in managing risk factors before and after surgery to optimize their outcomes. Additionally, I have a keen interest in psychological assessment, particularly in the use and study of the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory (MMPI) in both research and practice. I have been recognized by several national organizations with early-career research awards for my contributions to pre-surgical psychological evaluations. Currently, I am the Principal Investigator on novel psychological interventions for Type 2 Diabetes. I also serve as an Associate Editor for two esteemed journals in the field – Psychological Assessment and Surgery for Obesity and Related Diseases.
Have been looking for love in all the wrong places? Maybe you are super tired of swiping right but only ending up hurt. Is your anxiety at an all time high? Do you find it hard to concentrate on the things you have to do or find yourself reading the same line over and over again. What about that voice in your head? The one that says you are never good enough. You keep trying to shut it up by performing, being perfect, and overachieving but nothing seems to work. You try and make everyone happy by never saying no, but you are just left holding the bag, feeling resentful. What if I told you, that you could stop hustling. That you are worthy of love and belonging, right now, as is. I know you call BS but that is your past tricking you into believing you aren't. You can put down the mask. You can learn to say no. You can feel safe in relationships. Instead of feeling empty, you can feel alive. Hell, maybe even some joy. I love working with young people who want to stop being so hard on themselves, want to stop hustling for love in all the wrong places, stop surviving on little sleep, Cheetos, and weed to being able to have healthy relationships while saying no, taking actual care of themselves, and know they are worthy.
