Therapists for college students near 53715
The passage into young adulthood can be both daunting and exciting. The stresses and joys of being independent can become overwhelming at times as one continues to figure out where school, friend, and family balance come into play to create a satisfying life. I have helped many through the twists and turns of anxiety, depression, grief/loss, family and friend dynamics, as well as helping those with mood and personality disorders. You don't have to navigate these struggles alone!
I appreciate the time you are taking to choose the best person and process for your specific needs. Being a college student requires a lot of difficult choices, and I know finding a counselor can be hard as well. Here are some thoughts about how I work, but please contact me if you have other questions. My goal as a counselor is to shape our work around the needs, goals, and overall direction you want to take in your life. If you have very focused, concrete issues you want to address, we’ll use a solution-focused approach to create plans and strategies for focused change and growth. If you have more broad, complicated things to address, we talk about a deeper purpose and meaning for your life that can serve as a foundation for more significant changes. No matter what you would like to talk about in counseling, we will capitalize on your strengths as a whole person to create the change you seek.
I specialize in supporting adults dealing with ADHD, trauma, anxiety, depression, and substance use. My own life experiences and challenges have shaped my work as a therapist, and I bring empathy and understanding into each session. My approach centers on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where we work together to explore your goals, honoring your individual journey and finding strategies that feel right for you. I believe therapy is most effective when it’s a true collaboration, where we work together to find solutions that fit you, not a one-size-fits-all approach. I value honesty, humor, and mutual respect in our sessions—because healing doesn’t have to be all serious business. I’m here to listen, to guide, and to offer strategies that help you feel empowered and confident in navigating life’s challenges. Together, we’ll explore what works best for you, creating a space where you feel supported and understood, every step of the way.
Hi my name is Karolyn! It is hard being a teen and young adult. I believe that working collaboratively with young people and their families is rewarding and necessary for positive lasting change. I have witnessed how therapy can be a powerful way to learn more about yourself, resolve conflict, and develop and practice skills. With the client, I will explore needs, motivation for change, and set goals that are achievable and desirable. I will do this in an authentic, safe, affirming way that is moving toward wellness. Let's start!

Clients have described me as a compassionate, attentive therapist who genuinely cares and helps them move beyond the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that may be holding them back. Hello! My name is Christy Vachavake and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker here in Wisconsin. I work with adults in individual psychotherapy, and offer a warm, supportive space where you can speak openly and feel heard. I take a whole-person approach, considering how biological, psychological, and social factors all influence who we are and how we cope with life’s challenges. I bring a broad range of professional and life experience into my work, which allows me to approach therapy with steadiness and perspective. Before and throughout my work in mental health, I’ve supported people through a wide range of life experiences and challenges. That background has shaped a calm, steady approach to therapy and allows me to sit comfortably with difficult emotions, complex situations, and topics that can feel hard to name. In our work together, we focus primarily on the present — how your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors are showing up in your day-to-day life right now. While past experiences are important and may be explored, we focus on them mainly when they help us better understand what you’re dealing with today. My goal is to help you build insight, strengthen coping skills, and develop a clearer understanding of yourself so you can move through life with more confidence and balance. Our first session is primarily a space for us to get to know one another. We’ll talk about what’s bringing you to therapy, what you’re hoping to work on, and what you want from the therapeutic process. I’ll ask questions to better understand your experiences and expectations, and you’ll have the opportunity to get a sense of my style and how I approach therapy. This initial session is not a full picture of what ongoing therapy feels like, but rather a foundation — my goal is for you to leave with a clearer sense of direction and whether working together feels like a good fit moving forward.
The transition to undergraduate or graduate school can be a very vulnerable time, and many experience depression, anxiety, and anger along the way. It can be challenging to reach out for support and get connected, but it doesn’t have to be. I am honored to support and hold space for those struggling during these transitions. I have experience and interest in relationship issues, adjustment to life transitions, issues with family of origin, self-esteem, anxiety, depression, neurodivergence, and other mood concerns. I have specialized training in perinatal mental health, sexual health, self-compassion, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). I strive to use a non-judgmental, empathetic, and validating stance to help clients heal and grow, incorporating cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and self-compassion. Please reach out if you feel we may be a good fit!

The students I work best with are often balancing a lot at once. They may be trying to keep up with classes, work, family responsibilities, relationships, or uncertainty about their future while also managing stress, anxiety, burnout, or self-doubt. Many of the students I see are high-achieving and hardworking, but underneath the surface they feel overwhelmed, exhausted, stuck, or like they're carrying more than other people realize. Some are adjusting to college life, navigating major life transitions, or trying to figure out who they are and what they want for themselves. You do not need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, academic stress, confidence, or simply feeling lost, therapy can provide a supportive space to better understand yourself and develop tools to move forward. My goal is to create a welcoming, judgment-free environment where you can be yourself, explore what's getting in the way, and build the skills and confidence needed to thrive both in college and beyond.

From that place of awareness, we focus on self-growth and healing by building insight, emotional regulation skills, and healthier ways of coping.
